ci-joint, un mail venant de la famille ayant inventé le clicker
Hello Arnaud! . My family got started in archery
in 1955 when we were on vacation in Ludington, Michigan. At that time the
NFAA was holding the National Field Archery tournament in Ludington. My
father thought it looked like fun, so on our return we all got equipment. We
quickly got into tourney competition and all of us (Mom and Dad and my
brother and sister) did quite well. In the late 50's, about 1957-58, my
Father first got the inspiration for the clicker. He had been an avid gun
hunter and understood the problems with gun target shooting, namely freezing
and flinching while sighting on the target. He had developed the same
problems with the bow and arrow! He thought changing from a SIGHT trigger
(sight on the gold) to an AUDIO trigger just might work. He experimented
with camera noise timers but because you could 'cheat' on them they didn't
work well. He decided that something that would deflect the flight of the
arrow would work better and make the user more apt to honor it. He
experimented with all sorts of devices, but finally disassembled and old
wind-up alarm clock and removed the clock spring. He cut it to length, about
3 inches, drilled 2 small holes in it and the wood bow riser and screwed it
into the bow with 2 tiny machine screws. He spent the winter using it in our
basement, sitting in a chair (so he wouldn't hit the roof with his bow) and
shooting at a target 25 feet away (a small target on 2 bales of straw) to
get used to it. That spring he used it in tournaments and his target aiming
problems were solved. His scores were much improved and soon we all had them
fixed to our bows, with Father as our personal instructor.
Our family soon got very good at all forms of archery, target and field,
and in 1961 in Crystal Springs, Arkansas I won the Intermediate Boys field
competition. Earlier that summer in Chicago I won the Intermediate Boys
target competition. My scores in Arkansas were good enough to place me in
third ( I think) had I been in the adult group. I was only 16 and people
were wondering how I was doing it. The 'clicker' finally got noticed. I went
on to win 5 more 'nationals' and numerous State of Ohio titles setting
several records. In addition both my brother and sister soon also acquired a
reputation as top tournament competitors and my Father and Mother were also
able to do quite well.
People often don't view the 'clicker' for what it really is, and aid. An
archer still must have consistent form and the desire to do well. At the
peak of my archery 'career' I practiced 2 hours a day, every day, when I
could. My Father was my coach, and a very good one. The 'clicker' helped me
with the problems my Father had (I developed them also, as I would guess
many archers do) as well as becoming a 'draw check'. It was not designed as
a 'draw check', but that was another side benefit.
I no longer shoot the bow and arrow, but still have my old trusty Wilson
Black Widow (early 1960's model) as well as my 2 sets of Easton shafts. The
Wilson has a 'clock spring clicker' affixed to the riser of course. The
pressure of college, family and a working career made me retire from archery
in the early 1970's. However I am once again retired, from a 30 year career
from IBM, and I am thinking of taking up the bow again. _________________ Pro Staff CARREFOUR, Pro Staff DUREX, Pro Staff JC VANDAME, Pro Staff WORLD COMPAGNY

Heureusement qu'il a eu l'idée à l'époque ! Aujourd'hui, avec les afficheurs digitaux de nos réveils, ce n'aurait pas été possible...
